The Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia is on a fast pace to grow the economy and become a middle income country by 2025. In order to achieve this target, the government has a strong focus on workforce development, particularly focused on the youth, in order to address the high unemployment rate among this demographic.
The number of University graduates are increasing on an annual basis with many of them being ill prepared to enter the workforce. They lack the soft and hard skills that make them employable and competitive in the market which leads to them being unemployed or underemployed.
The Centre will be a focal point for the University to support the career development path of its students in order for them to enter the workforce seamlessly and develop their skills and self-confidence when it comes to employability skills. The Career Centre will provide various services to the students such as trainings, workshops, career development planning, and abundance of resources to help them discover and groom their individual career paths.
The Centre will be directed under the guidance of a trained career counselor who has experience in career guidance and skill enhancement trainings targeting students with a variety of interests and backgrounds. In addition, the Career Centre will serve as a resource for pre-graduation employment opportunities, such as internship and volunteer programs and serve as a hub for partnerships and developing Alumni networks.
